Although hurricanes may have steered clear of Florida since 2005, Florida’s homeowners are currently paying the nation’s most expensive home insurance premiums averaging $2,115. Insurers and their followers claim that plumbing leaks are one way that rates can go up even when hurricanes have gone away. Although attorneys and contractors may give different reasoning, there is not much hiding where Florida stands compared to the rest of the nation when it comes to the cost of home insurance. Even when hurricanes have been taking a holiday for the past 10 years, industry groups say that a part of the problem is abuse by third parties who gain control of insurance benefits.
